With rampant corruption, unemployment, and abuse in 19th century France, a convicted criminal by the name of Jean Valjean escapes his parole after almost two decades on the chain gang. Due to a fortunate, albeit lucky, series of events, Jean Valjean is able to fully escape the law and adopts a new identity as Monsieur Madeleine, eventually achieving a life as a factory owner and a mayor. Though initially lucky in building his new life, hidden from his antagonist Javert, he is regrettably involved in the ongoing bloody rebellion of France, wherein Jean Valjean is compelled to find answers that would change the lives of the people around him forever.

This story of Les Misérables, filled with justice and redemption, has been running for roughly 40 years in multiple locations over many different countries. Since its first showing in its home of Paris in the late 1900s, it has deservingly been referred to not just as part of the most unforgettable plays of this generation, but also part of the highly nominated and most-awarded too. In its global debut alone, it topped the nominations and awards of the acclaimed Tony Awards, with 12 nominations in total and 8 out of 12 wins. The musical obtained awards as Best Featured Actor and Actress in a Musical, Best Scenic Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Original Score, Best Book of a Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, and Best Musical. Thereupon, Les Misérables proceeded to receive awards and nominations in its next performances in Toronto, Australian, and Broadway productions comprising of the Helpmann Awards, Dora Awards, Green Room Awards, and of course, the Tonys once again.
